Hi,
we're running a 2960 four switch stack, Version 15.2(2)E6, and yesterday it had just stopped communicating such as responding to pings, etc. Neither could we console in to see what's going on, but all the lights appeared to be green and it never lost power. When we power cycled only the master switch, it still wasn't responding, but when we power cycled all the switches, it started responding.
Has anybody run into a similar scenario and happened to know what the root cause might be? As a corollary to that, why did it take power cycling ALL the switches for the stack to start communicating again?
Thanks.

Hi,
Were you pinging the switches's SVI or the management interface?
Your problem may happen if the IP address (that we were pinging) is on management interface, and also if the current stack master didn't patch (no cable connected to) the management interface.
Only the master switch's management interface will response to the incoming management traffic.

Thanks for your response..
So, this stack had been up for awhile until it stopped responding yesterday, so all the cables were in place. Also, we were pinging the management address, which is on the master switch.
Thanks.

Hello,
For troubleshooting, I think do you have two ways:
Configure Syslog server for view logs.
Try use tftpd32 for tests only, if do you don't have Syslog server
and
Use reserved memory for access console
Router(config)#memory reserved console 512

Additionally, put the commands:
show controller ethernet-controller stack port 1 and 2
show platform stack compatibility
show platform stack manager all
show platform stack passive-links
show switch detail
show switch neighbors
show switch 1 | 2 | 3 and 4
