DHCP Debug

Dear Sir,

 

Is there any guideline / document for the DHCP Debug ? 

 

I have problme with C9500 with IP Phone , some IP Phone can not be online after the IP Phone reboot. It is possible they can not obtain the IP from the DHCP Server. 

 

The C9500 acts as Router and DHCP relay, it forward the DHCP reqeust to the Micorsoft AD / DHCP server.

 

I enabled the "debug ip dhcp server events" and "debug ip dhcp server packet" for troubleshooting.  I can see the BOOTREQUEST forwarded to the DHCP server and BOOTREPLY sent back to the IP PHONE. It looks like the DHCP relay is working, but not very sure. . .

ARP entry exists (19X.16X.142.108, xxxx.yyyy.zzzz) <<<-- this if xxxx.yyyy.zzzz is ip phone mac indicate that ip phone is get ip from DHCP Pool and add to arp table with VLAN 141 (voice VLAN) but there is some option like op150 is missing from dhcp reply ?
you know that ip phone get config via TFTP.
check this point 

The C9500 is the replacement of the OLD C3560X , as there is problem with the IP PHone,  I have fallback to the C3560X temporary. 

 

Checked with the IP Phone administrator, we don't use Option 150.

 

hmm. It is possible the traffic  dropped somewhere. . . .  I think I needs to setup the span port to capture the IP packet for troubleshooting.

How is your lease time in DHCP Server ? Clear the Leases in DHCP and try to register - what is the outcome ?
