How to size up guest essential license requirement in hospital or hotel environment? Is that any guideline to refer? How can ISE capture information of the guest devices in term of what devices?

Please advise.

So... how many guests do you get per week/day/hour? Do the math to roughly calculate the number you have at any given time. Do you have existing guest wireless logs to provide guidance? Maybe you need to ask the hospital administrator for some basic estimates? Dont forget to add a few extras for patient's family & visitors & hospital staff Facebooking and TikToking on their personal devices.  8-)

From the ISE Deployment Architectures: Nodes, Services and Scale ISE Webinar I did last week:

•You have a mix of static endpoints and mobile endpoints

•Some endpoints are always on with long (8+ hours) session expirations

•There are patterns of usage that will cause ebbs and flows and spikes

‑Increased regional activity “follows the sun”

‑roaming spikes on the hour for changing meetings and classrooms

•Mobile endpoints hibernate & roam causing a 3-10X+ larger load

•Misconfigured devices can have 100-1000X larger than average auth load

> Can the ISE with essential license able to capture information on the guest devices?

No, that feature would be called Endpoint Profiling and requires at least 100 Advantage licenses to enable the capability. ISE should profile them by default if you have those licenses.

Hello @shwong73

There are a few guiding parameters. For example the upper limit of Essential licenses required is the same as the size of the ipv4 subnet for the guest. If it’s a /24 then that’s an easy number to deal with. Honestly, even a /20 is not that big a deal. The tricky part is knowing what the concurrent usage of that subject might be since licensing is only concerned with concurrent usage.
what type of guest service will this be?Hotspot or credential based? Is it given automatically to all patients or residents when they are admitted? That might also be a guiding number.
ISE has reports you can run to show how many AUP have been accepted in range of time. Perhaps that is one gauge to spot trends.
Most of the time it’s a case of guesswork.

Hello @Arne Bier

Question: What type of guest service will this be?
Answer: Guest service normally is hotspot connection to internet only.
Question: Hotspot or credential based?
Answer: both
Question: Is it given automatically to all patients or residents when they are admitted?
Answer: Automatically given to all patients or residents, since they are categorized as guest access. They are not allow to access company network or servers

Is there any rule of thumb to size up or allocate the number of essential license before the post sales activities?
Can the ISE with essential license able to capture information on the guest devices?
