The developer’s role in a greener future

Developers can optimize software for Cisco devices to reduce their energy consumption. By writing efficient code, developers can minimize the processing power required to perform tasks, thereby lowering the energy demands of the hardware. This not only prolongs the life of the device but also translates into reduced electricity usage, which is beneficial for both the environment and the end-user’s utility costs.

Organizations like the Green Software Foundation and Open Sustainable Technology share best practices and open-source projects to help developers with their sustainability efforts. Cisco DevNet also has sustainability projects and code posted on DevNet Code Exchange.
